Through our trips from buffalo ny to Houston Texas we have stopped at this rest stop many times. It is always well lit and easy to find parking. Security is there, but may not be the most effective. Either way, I would feel comfortable taking a quick snooze there. Oh and there are plenty of places to walk dogs if you have them. Restrooms are clean and easy to access and the maps in the main indoor area are almost always stocked, either that or no one actually uses real maps anymore.
One of the best rest areas! Louisiana has wisely built one rest area to service both east & west bound traffic. although, entry & exit CAN be a little confusing for 1st timers, because the entry & exits are divided ramps for each side. I have only been here 1 time in the daylight, & its delightful. I make round trips through here at least 2 times/year & even feel secure at night. A definite stop on my list!
Had a really good time at the Louisiana Welcome Center inside is an animated show which includes a crocodile and possum and I can't remember the other animal after they do the little animated skit the doors open we walk inside and watch a short movie with an animated talking bird my son really enjoyed it we did it twice. Lots of nice details inside the Welcome Center regarding the history of Louisiana some nice photo shots Outback with the lawn art.
Pretty rest stop! Nice collection of things to look at inside the museum. Great to walk through for a quick stretch of the legs. Bathrooms are clean albeit a little outdated. Free coffee when the visitor center is open. Well lit at night.
